This book presents a selection of medieval French sources written in the late 14th and early 15th centuries, translated into Turkish. These sources offer valuable insights into the knights' perspective on the Battle of Nicopolis, the Ottoman perception of the era, and the social dynamics of late medieval France. The battle left a lasting impact on late medieval France, making these texts essential historical records. An important resource for history enthusiasts and researchers, this book sheds light on the period’s spirit and provides a unique perspective on the history of the Ottoman Empire.


Zeynep Kocabıyıkoğlu Çeçen is an independent researcher in the field of late medieval history. She received her MA and PhD in History from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, respectively in 2005 and 2012, has taught at Bilkent and TED Universities in Ankara as a part-time instructor. Her research focuses on the reflections of late medieval knighthood and crusades in medieval literature as well as on the interactions between the East and West. Besides medieval history, she is also interested in and working on the late Ottoman era and the interactions between the Ottoman Empire and the West. She is the co-editor and co-author of a volume of collective essays on history and literature entitled Ayşegül Keskin Çolak’a Armağan: Tarih ve Edebiyat Yazıları published in Turkey in 2016 by Kebikeç Yayınları, and the editor and co-author of Orta Çağ’a Yeni Yaklaşımlar, another volume of collective essays on the Middle Ages, also published in Turkey in 2019 by Tarih Vakfı Yurt Yayınları, and has recently translated and edited the early twentieth century letters from a French journalist to Maréchal Lyautey, the governor of Morocco on Turkey and the Middle East, entitled Berthe Georges-Gaulis'den Mektuplar : Bir Fransız Gazetecinin Türkiye ve Ortadoğu İzlenimleri in 2021 by Koç University Press. She also has articles published in international journals and conference proceedings. She is currently working on a book comprising of translations from a selection of writings on Turks and warfare written in late medieval France. She is currently a research fellow at the Royal Holloway University of London.
